My Costa Rican Spirit Journey

What I experiences in Costa Rica, ‘Everything in God’s timing.’ Northern Connections’ team was supposed to have gone to Trinidad, everything was paid for and many delegates were waiting for our arrival, however Creator had a different plan for us that day.

I will tell you our story of how it unfolded. That morning getting up I took notice of a sign which said, “Expect a miracle today.” I was so filled with expectations on this journey. However, in my spirit I wasn’t prepared for what powerful things were going to happen.

We all got ready and piled into the van heading towards the airport. All of us imagining what was going to happen in Trinidad. For I have seen many wonderful things in our Journeys. How God has touched so many nations through our connections. I’m always especially honoured to meet with different delegates from other nations and observe how they traditionally praise and worship Creator. It’s so unique! Anyway, as we arrive at the airport, boarding passes in hand. The Robert’s family, whom Northern Connections received the invitation to Trinidad, had their seat assignments. However, our team of six still had not yet received their seat assignments, but confident that all was well because of the 14 open seats listed on the flight. With all passengers with assigned seats on board, our names weren’t being called. Now what?

There were 14 seats open that day, but Creator had other plans for us. As the plane left we watched it taxi off; my heart sunk, I so wanted to go to Trinidad. I swear my mouth was dragging on the floor that day, asking others now what, I knew all of us were disappointed. We must have sat in one place for an hour, not talking just looking. Finally my husband said, ‘Let’s go to Tel Aviv, Israel instead’, and we all said, ‘Yeah’. The excitement was back on; maybe this is where Creator wanted us to go, but soon doors closed on that idea. We continue to sit waiting for our luggage which took at least 2 hour to retrieve them back from the failed attempt to Trinidad.

Again we could hear renewed hope as my husband and Kenny Blacksmith discussing the options of Costa Rica. Kenny mentioned that he had a friend who lived there and could arrange accommodations too. With a quick check on flight loads to San Jose, Costa Rica with Air Canada and a call to a friend, we had a plan and the smiles were back on.

We too discovered that this friend of Kenny (Timothy) had planned originally to attend this Spirit Journey in Trinidad also. However, we learned later that he too was nudged by the Spirit to stay home. So when Kenny phoned and said we were coming he received his answer for the reasons.

On our way now, I fell asleep during the flight and Creator gave me a dream, in this dream I had seen a man walking up to a van and shouting out ‘Welcome, Welcome.’ And in this place, It was amazing too, I heard singing in my spirit, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is this place’, as if angles were singing. What a beautiful sound came out of this building, it was a blessing to hear this song.

Arriving into San Jose, Bonnie Sue and our Driver met us at the airport with a six seater van. Arriving at the hotel, there was my dream; Timothy welcomed us by yelling out ‘Welcome, Welcome.’ It blew me away and entering the hotel, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. It was an honour to be at this place for such a time as this. All that week was such a blessing, and it was God’s timing for us to be there. Both Timothy and Linda where excellent host, so giving, obedient and faithful to Creator. We were treated like Kings and Queens, and both Joel and Kenny needed a rest due to recent hectic agenda. We were all blessed how the Lord had rerouted us to have this time of rest.

We had the privilege of being able to share our culture and stories to some of their friends, we sang, danced and shared stories to many who were very interested and asked many questions, it was an exciting time to meet others who were seeking the Creator outside the walls of religion.

We stayed at the hotel for three days and headed to their ranch afterwards, Diane and I went ahead with Linda and her children. The rest stayed behind for an extra day, so it gave Diane and I time to talk with Linda and it was a healing journey for Linda and I. I am so blessed to have had Diane as a friend on this Spirit Journey. She taught me so much on, thank you Diane. I can honestly say that both Diane and Linda were excellent teachers to me, and their wisdom could have only come from Creator.

Linda was honoured to have us there, for the longest time she had wanted an understanding and experience of a sweat-lodge, and we had a wonderful time of praising and singing to Creator. With the blessing of seeing an eagle flying as a symbolic sign of our prayers being pleasing to Creator, we agreed to construct one at the ranch. Linda being prompted by the Great Spirit to stop a river. As I got off and walked by the river, I prayed in the four directions and offered tobacco and pick up some very nice round rocks. I believe we pick up about twenty two rocks in this beautiful land. It was a privilege to be in this awesome country.

It didn’t take long and we soon had a sweat-lodge and thank goodness for help, one of Timothy’s ranch hands went to the jungle to get long bamboo poles for us. He was such a help and understood what we were doing even though he couldn’t communicate with us, but he gave us the thumbs up and smiled with knotting his head saying, ‘good’.

So that morning we did our ceremony, prayed and sang songs as we did four rounds. We had stayed with the family for three days and each morning Diane, Linda, I and their girls sang a morning song. As we sang towards the east, I could see the mist rolling in and after we sang the sun would rise over the mountain tops. What an awesome sight to behold, how God greeted us each morning, and to accept our song of praises through our traditional hand-drums. It was a God time to be there and how He knitted things together for the goodness of His children. I just love to seek after him completely. I thank my Creator who sits in the Most Highest of place, and how I see his face in all his creation and people. Every trip I take it is like an adventure, because it is He who directs our path, leading us into our destiny.
