Sharing our stories of faith in Christ through Cultural Expressions

Our Spirit Journey into

The Pas / Opaskwayak Northern Connections'

Leadership Gathering

by Joel Molin

Report: January 17th, 2006

Northern Connections held their first Leadership Gathering at the Métis Hall on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation  January 14th - 15th 2006

Gathering our First Nation's leaders from the four directions of Manitoba, they came drawn by the Great Spirit to represent their community and be set apart for their appointment on the land in Israel.

Although some of the team destined to make the journey to Israel were not present for the Gathering, a fair representation were.  Team leader for "Piindigaa'atah Dancers" Peter Kwandibens and Pastor Keith Matthew prayed over the team, anointing them with oil and fanning them with an Eagle wing fan. Great Spirit was very evident in the gathering.

Chief Pascall Bighetty of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation opened up the Leadership Gathering with his powerful testimony of the importance of living for the Creator rather than self.

Cultural Worship was released by our Drum Circle and all dancers participated during the opening Pow Wow Ceremonies

It was a time of lifting the team in prayers and setting them apart for the Creator's purposes.

Among those who were prayed for were; L to R

Leo Linklater, Guy and Melanie Molin, Don and Maureen Brown, Edna Nabess, Delvina Kejick and Janet Greene

For where much was given - much is expected. For our responsibilities are great. Mandy Lathlin and Troy Molin

"Piindigaa'atah Dancers" Peter and Josie Kwandibens - Thank you for all that you blessed us with while we were with you. You folks encouraged us tremendously. We will do it again.

We love you, folks in The Pas.

Peter's wife, Josie, (women's traditional); two granddaughters, Raven (19 years - jingle dress and shawl dancer); and Tanager, (10 years), all took part in sharing their faith through dance and testimony.

Delvina Kejick made the 7 hour journey from Brandon with her 2 children and a couple of friends

Don Brown and Delvina Kejick lead worship with songs by Rita Bear and Broken Walls accompanied by the Abba Drum.

The Gathering started with the Grand Entry followed up by opening remarks of the Chief of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, Chief Pascall Bighetty. Pascall had set the tone for the gathering by emphasizing the absolute importance of walking in faith with the Creator, even during our failures.

With the opening remarks said, the Drum Circle commenced drumming on the Abba drum, leading the dancers into worship.

We then moved into presenting the "One Heart Gathering" DVD  to all the participants. There they were introduced to what the Spirit of God had done in the One Heart Gathering and what He was doing amongst our First Nations' People.

After viewing the One Heart Gathering, Pastor Joel Molin shared that the responsibility of Gate Keeper was a serious matter and one not to be taken lightly - for the Word declares in Luke;

Luke 12:48 ...So to every one to whom much was given, much will be demanded from him, and to whom they entrusted much, all the more they will ask of him.

Further to this was the importance of our responsibilities as Leaders and the blessings that come from obedience and the curses that come with disobedience.  A common theme that rang loud was the scripture found in 2 Chronicle;

2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Afterwards all were dismissed for the afternoon break and the evening session resumed at 6:00.

With powerful signs He reinforced the teachings, both in the Gathering and the homes where some of our guest were staying.

Upon resuming the evening session we moved into testimonies of God's move in other nations - watching the DVD, "Let The Seas Resound", where God is restoring the land of Fiji through it's Indigenous Peoples - with both MC, Maureen Brown, and Joel sharing words of scripture and comments, which captured what God was conveying during the Leadership Gathering.

The following day brought a few more of our people into the Gathering, while others needed to make the journey back home. So, a time was set aside to pray for the protection of those that were on the road.

That afternoon was dedicated for a time of worship with the help of Delvina, Don and our Drum circle. What a powerful time was had.

After songs of worship had been sung and the Word read by Maureen, Peter was ask to share what the Lord had brought him to Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) for. He began to share a little, expecting to move into a routine of dance that he performs with his family immediately, but due to technical difficulties with a CD player he was forced to continue speaking.  Oh, thank God for these difficulties! For with this delay the Spirit of the Lord came upon Peter. He began to share from the heart of God a message that all needed to hear. All were moved by the Spirit and listened intently to every word. The message was that God takes us from were we are at and builds us up to where we are going; that we need not be afraid of our walk, but boldly move into it, for where our Lord has walked, so should we. To move amongst our people and just LOVE them!

Encouraging them to share forgiveness rather than confrontation, servant hood rather than being served. All these things bring healing and grace in more and more abundance than anything else that one can do. In another word, LOVE, this is really what builds a relationship, family, village and nation! And that love is not a feeling, rather an act of obedience.

John 14:15 Jesus said to his disciples: If you love me, you will do as I command.

After a powerful word received through Peter's heartfelt message - who incidentally made the 15 hour journey from Thunder Bay to OCN to share with us, with only thirty dollars in his pocket - was able then to dance out his testimony, accompanied with his family. Praise God for obedient servants!

At this time we called forth all those that were going to make the journey to the land of Israel and had them seated in front of everyone. Both Peter and Keith Matthews were called upon to anoint and bless the team. As Keith was anointing them with oil, Peter was fanning them with his Eagle Wing fan, symbolizing the Great Spirit, and a word was given to each of them.

The Gathering was concluded by a potluck feast and a short video on a the First people's prophecy and the role they will have in healing the nations of the world.

We want to thank everyone for being obedient to the calling of the Great Spirit and making the journey to OCN. We especially want to thank those that have journeyed from afar; Winnipeg, Brandon, Thunder Bay, Ont., Pukatawagan and Nelson House. Your sacrifice of time, and finances will not go unnoticed by our Creator and Savior, "Jesus Christ".

We also want to give praise to our heavenly Father for having all our team travel safely back home without incidents, despite freezing rain and terrible ice-covered road conditions that existed at the time of the departure.

Comments on the Gathering:

Hi Joel
.....It was memorable to be with you to say the least. Thank you for asking me along to share in the joy & movement of His Spirit. 'Connection' with Peter from Thunder Bay was significant for me....

Your Brother

Hello there,
Just to let you know that we made it safe and sound last night at exactly 12:30 am. The roads were terrible, but God took us there and he bought us home again. Thank you for the the most wonderful time. The boys sure enjoyed themselves.

God bless.

Love,

Janet

Blessings to you and your household for your graciousness in all that happened this past weekend. We arrived this morning only - as the conditions were so that we had to stay in Dauphin a few hours - so only pulled into Brandon 8am. But we did arrive! Too bad Guy wasn't driving for us - I'm sure we would've been much faster!

Thank you once again All of you there.

Delvina (Mother Heart)

(Will be praying for your request Delvina)
