2008 THE MANITOBA HUMAN RIGHTS
AWARD - WINNIPEG

This is an
incredible little BIG story. A northern Manitoba First
Nation school steps out to show what can be done when
faith is mixed with action.
Joe A Ross School (JAR) of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation,
winners of the 2008 prestige Sybil Shack Award, have
been recognized for their efforts in the sponsoring of
an emerging Rwandan Primary School.
With a school enrolment of some nine hundred students,
JAR has realized a sponsorship of one third their own
school attendance. Simply amazing! Some three hundred
plus Rwandan students excitingly trot to their new
school with a new hope for tomorrow.
And that is exactly the name that these new schools
proudly call themselves, HOPE FOR TOMORROW SCHOOLS.
Today there are some three schools and growing.
We also invite you to be challenged by Joe A Ross &
Northern Connections to partnership in the African
School Sponsorship Challenge.

AFRICAN SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP
CHALLENGE
BY JOE A ROSS SCHOOL
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
NORTHERN CONNECTIONS

This is a
documentary by our First Peoples of Canada, challenging
schools throughout our lands to take the lead on
sponsoring the less privileged children in Rwanda. As
Northern Connections extends invitations, they soon
embark on a Spirit Journey into the Heart of Africa -
Rwanda - a world that is far removed from their own.
Yet, similar stories faced their own forefathers. And
they soon discovered the circumstances which their
ancestors had spoken to them about; the ill effects of
colonization and tribal disputes, which demonically
wreaked havoc in the generations to follow.
Come witness a people group bring hope and share out of
their experiences, having learned from the wipe and
coming through it, they gain respect to share with those
who are still bound by their past. Watch as they reflect
on their own state and seek to extend efforts to do what
they can to help out those, whose circumstances are much
worse then their own. As they travel on this journey,
you witness nations going from being victims to victors,
conquering what the enemy had in store for them. We
welcome you to the challenge and hope this documentary
moves you to live beyond your own wants.
